DDD & Avenue Art Days honored at Art Awards

Avenue Art Days committee members, along with several DDD Board members were honored and accepted the “Arts Advocate/Group or Business Award” on behalf of The Douglas Design District and Avenue Art Days, at the the Arts Council’s 49th Annual Art Awards Dinner Thursday night.

The Arts Advocate Award is given to an organization or business dedicated to furthering the cause of an art form or the arts in general through promotional, volunteer, administrative, legislative or professional efforts.

In total, nine amazing Wichita area individuals, cultural organizations and businesses were recognized for their work to further the growth and development of arts in the Wichita area.

Since 1999, the Arts Council, which is housed at CityArts, has worked in partnership with the City of Wichita to achieve its mission of advancing and promoting arts and culture in the Wichita community through advocacy, leadership, education and collaboration. The Arts Council slogan “We Make Art Happen” reinforces the group’s commitment to the business side of the arts and spreading the word that arts and culture is a $94.7 million industry in Wichita that supports 2,841 jobs and generates $9.5 million in local/state government revenue. WichitaArts.com was created by the Arts Council to be a place where everyone can learn more about the scope and value of the arts to the Wichita community.
